Dissemination Activity at Erasmus Days Event
On 14th October 2022, a presentation was conducted at the Erasmus Days event by Burgas Free University (BFU) in Burgas, Bulgaria. The event took place at Burgas Free University in Room 208 and was attended by 31 participants.
The presentation focused on the project titled "Redesigning Introductory Computer Programming Using Innovative Online Modules" (RECOM). The main objective of the project was to address the challenges faced in teaching and learning Computer Programming and Algorithms, which is a core element in various engineering disciplines. The complexities of this course are further compounded in online platforms, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project aimed to meet the increasing demand for Industry 4.0 and 5.0 topics, including artificial intelligence and machine learning applications. To achieve this, the project sought to develop innovative solutions to support the online delivery of Computer Programming and Algorithms courses with a focus on producing well-educated professionals in the field.
Through the project, educators were trained to overcome the challenges of online education and create suitable course materials for Computer Programming and Algorithms lectures. The project emphasized the integration of online teaching methods with appropriate technologies to enhance students' motivation, interest, and concentration in the subject. The ultimate goal was to develop a well-structured online teaching approach for this course, emphasizing student-centred learning and active learning activities.
The project was coordinated by Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey, with BFU's participation under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Veselina Zhecheva, PhD. The project aimed to persuade educators to embrace immersive technologies in online educational programs, enhancing their pedagogical knowledge to foster greater student engagement and involvement.
By presenting the RECOM project at the Erasmus Days event, BFU aimed to disseminate their efforts and findings to a wider audience, fostering knowledge exchange and encouraging the adoption of innovative approaches to online Computer Programming and Algorithms courses. The presentation served as a platform to share the project's goals, methodologies, and anticipated impacts with fellow educators, researchers, and stakeholders interested in improving online education practices.
